Product
The Amoskeag Manufacturing Company was founded by a group of entrepreneurs in 1825 and incorporated in 1831 as a textile manufacturer. At the beginning of the Civil War, Amoskeag Manfuacturing Co. began to produce war material. They contracted for musket and carbines. To produce a the 1861 Springfield Rifle Musket, they purchased machines and tools. Per U.S. Government order 27,001 muskets were made. Further about 1,500 were made for state militias. August 1861 J.B. Sarson, W.S. Roberts and Edward Lindner visited the company in order to mak guns. Sarson & Roberts had a Government contract for 25,000 Springield Rifles. They proposed a part of 10,000 or the whole to manucature by the Amoskeg Manugacturing Co. In fact, this was probably an exporatory mission as the contract was only received on December 26, 1861.

Lindner contracted with Amoskeag for 400 carbines and 40,000 Lindner cartridges (.574 caliber Minie) at $25 per gun. Records show that these guns were assembled with a mixture on in-house and externally supplied part. Between September and November 1861, Amoskeag received 500 barrels from Trenton Iron Works, and 539 locks from William Hahn of New York City.

Amoskeag Manufacturing Company did much work for Edward Lindner, for example they altered 400 Mississippi Rifles in 1861.

6,000 Lindner 2nd Model carbines were made in 1864 and proposed to the Government but refused. Instead they were sold to the French on November 12, 1870.
